Books

All of my books focus on Whiteness in one way or another. I write about Whiteness because I spent years in graduate schools in which the study of "race" seemed to be the study of "People of Color."  This focus is not unimportant, but I felt like we were missing an important part of the puzzle.  If 82% of our teachers are White in the U.S., how can we talk about race and education without talking about Whiteness?

James Baldwin once said, “Racism is not actually a People of Color problem. It’s a White person problem. It’s never going to change unless White people do something about it.”

Studying Whiteness and talking about Whiteness changes the conversation.  If White people are part of the problem, then we are also part of the solution. My work is a life long inquiry into what that looks like--for myself and for others.
